Parent Gratitude

Almost a whole month has gone by and I could not be more grateful for the results I have seen from “31 days of Gratitude.” This is my last Wednesday post for the month of March and I am sure you all have heard the phrase, “save the best for last”!

Aside from the basics of what you need to survive what are you most grateful for? The top of my list would be my Mother and Father. I asked them last month what gratitude meant to them:

“To me gratitude is a feeling of satisfaction and contempt with my being, place in life, current and past circumstances.”
Dad

“For me gratitude is being content and thankful with having enough to make one self happy. When I have more than enough, I hope I deserve it.”
Mom

They certainly carry almost identical definitions. I guess I know where I get my sense of gratitude, and for that I am grateful. Sure sure, they raised me, and brought me through life’s basic manners, but as an adult their meaning grows stronger now that I can maturely appreciate them more. I am so grateful for their calm support of everything happening in my life. One change after another and they are right there to see it happen. So many times I have lost my cool with them, broke down in tears in from of them, and emailed them about not so happy times. So many times have they stood by me one challenge to the next. Never once did they say no, never once did they hold me back, never once did they stop me from straight up making big life learning mistakes. They don’t baby their youngest son instead they are letting me live. They trust and know that even if I am twirling through life’s tornado that I am going to land on my feet and keep walking forward when it’s all over. I am grateful for everything they have taught me in life. I am grateful for everything they let me learn on my own. I am grateful for their advice and I am grateful to just have them listen. They don’t agree with some things I have done, or darn right just think I am weird, but they raised me, they know me and they trust my choices.

My life’s path is unique and super challenging but I am grateful that my mom and dad are there whenever I need them. You are never too old to get advice from your parents. You are never too old to have them just listen. They are not going to be around forever so I make sure they still remember from time to time that I am grateful for everything they have done to help me in my life.

Pick Up and Move, Florida Gratitude

From previous post.
When I got back home, it was the car ride from the airport that I realized I don’t belong in Illinois anymore. This realization and many more signs and hard work has put me in the great spot I am today. You will have to wait till next week to find out what was next for me.
Life will just exist, but in order to make it existing you need to face many challenges, fall, rise up, and move on! One chapter to the next I am living my life. Change to change I am full of gratitude the whole way.

I gratefully stayed at my sister’s place when I got home from my cruise adventure. I went on our families camping trip as a surprise and saw tons of family, but then realized it was time for change. My friend Chris and his wife Reese were up from Florida to visit and gave me the idea to move down and stay with them till I got on my feet! With my money running out, my credit cards maxing, my desire for more big change, and my friends grateful offer, I packed my car. I had a party and said good bye to Illinois. Now I was Florida bound on only the promise of an interview for a job! I had about a half dozen people worried for my drive down here, given my sleepy history, but I MADE IT!

Sunny, hot, stormy Florida was my new home. Guess what, that interview went south! I guess I was meant to be more than simply a zipline instructor. Chris and Reese work with the school district and suggested I set my efforts there. First I applied to be a substitute teacher and was lining myself up to nail this job. Then I applied to be a Para Professional for several schools. In the light of burning to the end of my money I also applied for everything even graphic design jobs. I WILL GET A JOB, that was my full time job.

I had an amazing interview at one school, the first and only interview I had down here. A few days later I got a call from my previous boss in the design business and he said the school called him and he gave me a glowing review. He also jumped the gun and said I got the job. No sooner then immediately after I hung up the phone did the Principle from my new job call me to offer me that job! YES of course I took it. The rest of this week my phone rang off the hook for interviews from other schools, and other job opportunities, I declined all of them. The funny thing is I just realized the job I have now was the only actual interview I had down here…..and I NAILED IT!

Five shout-outs for this amazing job find! I am grateful for the help of Reese, Chris, Jon, Megan, and Denise.

The job working with children has many rewards and some of my regular followers have already read about it too. I never thought I would be working with children like I am but there is far more to my experience down here. I have been kayaking on many occasions, I have visited every person I know down here, I have been to the beach so many times I lost count, I have seen so much nature has to offer here, I have seen friends from my cruise job, I have meet new people, MLS has expanded a brand new team down here the Orlando City Soccer Club, I have really strengthened my knowledge, interest and skill in spiritual energy healing, I have found a church I actually enjoy going to, and the list just keeps going. I am grateful for every little bit that I have experienced already down here and the world still has so much more to show me.

Change is challenging, but without a challenge there is no change. It’s been a scary ride the past few years but I have not stopped smiling sense the moment I got down here to Florida. I am grateful to be able to say life is amazing down here. I have made so many big changes and as long as I stick it out my heart has not lied to me once. Gratitude has been my main passenger on life’s journey and certainly there is no shortage of things to be grateful for with my life down here in Florida.

You have heard me time and again say I am on a quest to love everything in life. Excepting everything is the same thing. There is good in every bad situation but you have to be willing to look if you are to be able to see it. We all have problems in our life and its those problems that lead paths of gratitude to were you want to be in life. Be grateful for the good things, be grateful for the problems and be grateful for the journey.

Cruise Life Gratitude

Two and a half years ago I went on a cruise vacation. This vacation stacked on a lot of first in my life and started a string of many more. I am so glad I had my sister to share it with. In fact I was grateful she was there. Had she not been I may not have made it back to the ship one day, but that is a story for the memory box.

From this cruise vacation in the Southern Caribbean I fell in love with the ocean and the idea that I need to work on one of the ships. When it’s in my mind I make it happen no matter what. Through extensive research and networking I has seen this dream to be possible. A first time trip to Canada, seeing Niagara Falls in the winter time, and a 45 minute walk in a Toronto snow storm to my interview and I got the job. I was not supposed to find out I got the job for a week or more but I got the call the next day on my drive home. I think I was crying I had to pull over and make some phone calls of my good news. The embankment of this journey certainly makes for the most challenging job search I have ever had. I am grateful for the victory and everyone who was involved to help me get there.

I got my ship assignment and low and behold they put me back into the Southern Caribbean. Working on a cruise ship is an experience like no other. It would take me weeks of posts to tell you everything. I have not even told my family and friends all the stories yet. It was so amazing to meet and friend so many people from around the world. It was so amazing to visit so many places I have never been and 2 weeks later visit again. I am so grateful to have visited these places and still today I talk to several people from my cruise experience. I worked in the gift shop and shortly thereafter I became the Promotions Ambassador for the whole ship. I promoted all over the ship and on the morning show. I got employee of the month my 2nd month on the job and it was out of the entire cruise line fleet of about 20+ ships. Then I became the jewelry specialist. So grateful that is was a constant career learning experience.

This job was not easy. I knew this walking in but far more difficult then I imagined. The job was hard, the hours were hard, the language gap was hard among my coworkers. My reward during time off was a new place to visit, the beach, and the ocean. Ship life is a whole different life. This was still a very trying time in my life emotionally also. I was not homesick but I had a lot of emotions that needed out. I am grateful that this cruise job helped me release those emotions and I am even more grateful for those that endured my sometimes scary emails of venting my feelings while I worked my butt off. I am grateful that I wrote a daily journey. Whenever life gets hard I go back and read its raw emotional content. Through all the hard times sparkles so many good times as well, countless memories that are with me forever.
During my short cruise career I was networking on my ship to secure my next 6 month position but the worst allergies I have ever had in my entire life where striking me down one day at a time. Suddenly every challenge I had just tripled in difficulty. Nothing was working so the only option was to be sent home on medical leave. Through this challenge I rose again. I had many conversations with the ocean, asking what to do next. When I got back home it was the car ride from the airport that I realized I don’t belong in Illinois anymore.

Something I just realized this morning! I started this cruise journey with my sister on vacation and it ended with my sister picking me up at the airport when I had to go home. That is amazing.
