TED Talks Live, New York (The Education Revolution)

12190942_10208068391450226_1599552607900235406_n

I came home from New York City (NYC) and people were amazed what I fit in just 3 days. They thought I was there a week or more. I did it all while I was in NYC. The Tower observation decks, museums, boat tours and much more. The main reason I was there was to experience my first Live TED Talk event.

This was a double bucket list trip. First time seeing TED Talks and NYC. The whole trip was amazing but I would like to tell you my thoughts on some of the best motivational speakers of the evening. In the heart of NYC, Broadway and Time Square, I went to the historic Town Hall Theater. This event was going on all week with a different main topic each day. The main topic for the day I went was “The Education Revolution”. Other topics were things like science, history, war and peace.

I would like to say that this is a very informal post, more like expanded notes.

Andrew Mangino, CEO and Co-Founder of The Future Project:

He told us about how we need not just teachers in our world but Dream Directors. Yes every teacher can be a Dream Director, every one of us can inspire the future of our children. With the increasing amount of rules and regulations in the education industry we are leaving children’s creativity by the way sides, and we are ignoring their abilities to dream big in their life. Life is not all about just pushing kids to go to college it is about living their own lives. Listen to their ideas and let them follow their dreams. Not all will succeed right away but if we teach them how success and failure work together, all of their dreams have the ability to grow. We need to update the Education System and teach kids the jobs of today. Things have become useless were other things are not even brought up.

Julie Lythcott-Haims, Academic & Bestselling Author of “How to Raise an Adult”

Julie said at the end of her speech, “My kids are not bonsai trees they are wild flowers of an unknown species.” We are giving our children a checklist childhood we are expecting our kids to perform at a perfect level that we never even held ourselves too. These kids need to learn right and wrong by experience. Our kids need to experience failure and how to rise above it. Julie says, “By the end of high school these kids are questioning the worth of their life and their future.” We need to stop babying our kids. They need to be able to grow their own self-efficiency. Kids have too much entitlement; they need to earn more of what is just given to them. Kids need to experience life for themselves!

Julie told us, “A study was conducted and all the top professionals did chores as a kid.” I did chores and I made it to Design Director and now I am headed toward Dream Director as a motivational speaker. Academically kids need to know they matter to us, that they are not just another test grade statistic. All success did not come from going to big name schools, and world renowned colleges. Some success did not come from college at all. I choose to only get my 2 associates degrees. With that and a well brought up life of challenges and discovering who I am, I am succeeding everywhere in my life. I don’t owe everything I have accomplished in my life to some big name school. I owe it to my parents, Scouts, Failure, and outright earning everything I have in life from hard work.

Daniella Carter, Founder of Gender Global

As a youth Daniella was homeless, she was homeless because she was rejected by her own parents for being transgender. The LGBTQIA individuals have enough problems in the school and social setting as it is. For Daniella to rise about her homelessness and the critiques of the world around her is a huge challenge. Today she teaches children to overcome their adversities and embrace who they are with confidence. She was emotional giving her life story speech but I think she left no eye dry in the theater either. Bullying is such a problem in our world today. Where are kids learning that it is alright to tease and make fun of people who are different? The crazy thing is every single one of us is different! Even as an adult we make fun of and talk down things and people just because we don’t understand them. At the end she says “Join the revolution of loving someone different.” That is vague and precise all in one statement.

Sean McComb, National Teacher of the Year in 2014.

He started a program called AVID to help the students stretch themselves to succeed. He is also the youngest teacher to ever receive this award. He tells us that even thru all the change in regulations and paperwork and poor treatment of our future it still stands that teachers are the heart of hope for the future of our students. Our biggest enemy is the unknown future ahead, will it get worse or will it get better? “We need to make school the best 7 hours of our students day,” says Sean. We, above all else, cannot let these doors of opportunity close on any child.

There is a future for me here. The world of motivators is calling out to me and I get closer and closer to hear exactly what they are saying every day. I have been around the block many times. I have been hurt and I have been happy. My life has always been an adventure. This blog is certainly where I started but It will never end till I stop breathing. I am going to make a difference in this world, you can wait and see or you can join me along the way. I am too strong for anyone to break down my cause and truthfully only care for those that support, encourage or just plain accept what I am doing here. Those that follow me are very helpful, those that share their positive opinions I am thankful for, and those that want to help me I am extremely grateful for. You are all amazing and I am grateful for any part you take in this journey. I know I cannot make this world a more positive place on my own but I guarantee WE can do it together.

Gratitude to JOY!

I started to exercise again and when I was walking I came across this

20141209_213326

I certainly take this as a sign, well because it clearly is an actual sign that says “JOY” but it means so much more than that! I am discovering many joys in my life and as I start the next chapter of exercise it is certainly very inspiring to find this sign in the ditch. In my journey to find joy, well joy is finding me, and I owe it to gratitude! How cool is that? I am grateful for everything in my life and maybe this sign means something different. Tis the season to find joy and honor the world we live in. Perhaps this is simply a sign to brighten my holiday spirit!

I have been following signs for most of my life. Is it ironic that I worked in the sign design industry for many years only to step out and follow different signs in my life? In one way or another we are all following signs in our life.

I have always been saying everything happens for a reason. I am a full believer of seeing hidden signs in our life and letting them flourish with full potential. No matter how big or small, we are meant to find the signs we see, just as you were meant to read this.

We can be inspired by many things in our life and all we have to do is open our eyes and be ready to receive these wondrous joys. What joys have you found? Are you looking? What are you looking for? Sometimes you need to shut your eyes and let your heart find these things, they are everywhere and these joys will pop up anywhere in your life. Show gratitude for what you do have in life now and the joyous signs you see in your life will be your rewards of more things to be grateful for in your future, more signs of joy.

Joy to the world and let us be grateful for all that we have now so that we may find more joy to share with others in our future! Have a great day everyone!

Variety Friday (Alexander Perls – Storm)

I love songs with no words. It gives you a chance to create your own story with beautiful music. When I listen to this song “Storm” by Alexander Perls it really makes me think about my life transforming right before my eyes. All the troubles are washed away from you and the pure rain is falling and filling you with all the greatness to come.

The next time it rains go outside with this song and just look straight up. As you hear this song and feel that positivism hitting your face and soaking right into your soul, you then can make that great connection with your life.

I hope you can find inspiration in this song as I have. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

If you have not already share my blog with your friends and family and check out an like my Facebook as well.

Much gratitude to all of you.

Variety Friday (Fortune)

What if the fate of the world relied on your fortune cookie?

fortune-cookie-believe

Yes, yes, I know fortune cookies are just fun for most, but how many times have you gotten one that was right? I just got one on Wednesday that really nails it for me right now.

20141106_210728

“Your spirit of adventure leads you down an exciting new path.”

This fortune could not be more right. My life is full of adventure, including adventures within! You better believe it is an exciting path. Everything in our life has value, every person we meet has value you. The first step in discovering the value of things or people you encounter in your life is to BELIEVE! If you don’t have belief that it will work or benefit you there is no chance it ever will. If you just believe, you are that much closer to an opportunity for something very exciting in your life. I can guarantee that people’s lives have been forever changed simply at the crack of a fortune cookie. Those messages are all pre-written but perhaps we are all meant to find that fortune that changes our life?

Variety Friday! (NEW BLOG CHANGES)

All new Variety Friday!

I wrote about this once before but this has to be my most favorite quote so far on my journey of change: “Anything worth doing was worth doing poorly-until I can learn to do it well.” – Zig Ziglar.

Past Post

I try so hard to keep my post short and sweet but sometimes I still amaze myself how much I could say and still have to say about Ultra Positivism. This blog is a living organism of my life and I share bits and pieces of it indirectly all the time in my posts about positivism. There is no GPS on my life, but you better be certain I will continue to leave a trail for those to follow and teach me new things. I started this blog out of heart break and just look at where I have come from that moment. I was not a writer, there was a day I was anything but positive, there was a day were life was not worth living. UP to today I built a never give up attitude, and I am surrounding it with Ultra Positivism from around the globe. I have all of you to be grateful for that. I may have uninspiring posts sometimes, my grammar may flounder in my rushed attempts to post, I may miss a week of posting here and there, I may fall to my knees in tears, but IT IS ALL WORTH IT. I may not know where I am going or where I may end up but I know for a fact it all adds to my tale of life and slowly I will pick up inspired and inspiring people along the way. I don’t know when I will become a motivational speaker or what I will even say but if just one day I can stand in front of hundreds or more, deliver life’s message and change the lives of each one I will have learned to do it well.

I enjoy Famous Quote Friday but it is time for change. There is more out there, more then I have time to share. I don’t want to leave Fridays for just quotes. I will start to include video clips, music, pictures, other blogs, or Facebook pages that inspire me. I start today with a song.

This song I have had for years and only in the last couple days did I search for the meaning of the title. I have also lost count of how many times I have listened to this song and how many times it continues to inspire me.

“Shibumi” by Amethystium
Listen to it. Give your full attention to it and nothing else. While you listen think about your life. This song is to amazing for words to describe but I did find an Urban Dictionary definition to the word “Shibumi”

A term from the Edo period in Japan refering to places, persons, or things of effortless perfection. Anything that is Shibumi is noble and fulfilling in a manner that is not shaped exclusively by analytical thought. Simply put, a state of great refinement underlying commonplace appearances.

If I had to pick an important post this one is it. This is the one I want EVERYONE to share. For the sake of you, others and myself, help me find great things in life by helping me spread my message of Positivism everywhere. I cannot pay you I cannot force you but each and every one of you I owe a debt of gratitude for helping me share this blog and this journey with the world. I want to make a name for myself and with every post and every share I can come closer to my dream.

PLEASE SHARE this post with those that you know. Those that see my blog for the first time share it with those you know as well. There are great things to come with https://upwithmarc.com/ and I look forward to inspire many and be inspired in return by each and every one of you. You can never achieve a great goal in life on your own and If there was a way I can help you I will.

Bathtub Meditation

I know I usually post every other Wednesday, but I have so many great things to share with all of you these days. On my quest to love everything life has to offer I have tried many things. The best part about trying new things is it arises ideas and opportunities to do more new things.

I want to draw a quick bath(path!) to what I want to talk about today. I have been exploring different worship ceremonies. The one that is speaking most to me right now has more of a spiritual essences than religious. This spiritual venture has lead me to the ideas of meditation. I explored a few option of meditation and was unsuccessful at the time. I was recently introduced to Carol Kettley Rushton thru a mutual friend. She specializes in Reiki Healing and Spiritual Guidance. She gave me my first card reading ever. This was by far an amazing and enlightening experience. It for sure sparked a new friendship with another positive individual. I told Carol about my meditation attempts and she had suggested to combine the things I love into meditation.

Carol suggested what I will just coin as bathtub meditation. I love relaxing music and I love being in the water so it seemed like a very fitting suggestion. Now I want everyone to visualize the size of their bathtub…. Now picture a 6’2″ person fitting in there! HA! needless to say I fit myself in the tub!

I will tell you what I did, you are welcome to try this or come up with a variation of your own. I made myself a play list to go at least an hour with wordless relaxing music, you can make yours as long or as short as you wish. I played it thru head phones to cancel out any other noises. I ran a very hot bath with some scented bath balls. I turned the lights off so it was completely dark. I got myself in a good position in the tub and played my music. I shut my eye and I began to sweat and imagined that every bead of sweat was a release of thought until I was thoughtless and combining myself with the flow of the music. I just relaxed until the music stopped and IT WAS AMAZING!

This bathtub meditation was one of the most amazing personal positive experiences I have ever had. The music stopped and it actually took some time to come back to reality. I was so relaxed I could barely stand (literally)! Needless to say I slept well and the days to follow were very positive and relaxing as well. If you do try this please let me know how it works out for you.

I would like to show my gratefulness for the events and suggestions and pass on Carol’s information to you. She does so many great things and I definitely plan to go back and try this Reiki Healing with her next time.

If you could do me a great favor go and like her on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/CrystalRanchReikiHealing. Her and I would be very grateful.

Some of the things I have experienced through Carol’s guidance I never believed in before. However, my experience in trying it has brought something in clear focus for me. You will never benefit from something you don’t believe in. You can only benefit from what you do believe in! We should open ourselves up to try new things all our lives, you never know what kind of positive impacts you will encounter.

I hope all of you will check our Carol’s sites. Also, I challenge all of you to show a little faith in something you are skeptical about and see if any good comes from it.

Have a great day and thank you for following me.

FREE LOVE $1

YOU HAVE TO CHECK THIS OUT! 🙂

All our lives we meet amazing people and see amazing things. Several years ago today Michael Morris simply wanted to brighten peoples day on his birthday for just $1. His time with us was short but beautiful. I was not fortunate enough to meet this wonderful person Michael but I was however lucky to meet his sister Andi Morris who is building something wonderful, in Michaels memory, to brighten peoples days. I will be brightening peoples day today and Andi would be eternally grateful for others who participate as well. Andi is carrying out a tradition that has grown so much in such a short time.

FREE LOVE $1 EVENT

Andi MorrisWrites:

In honor of Mike’s birthday, we will be continuing a tradition that he started. He called his event “Free Love One Dollar” and it was simply a means to brighten a stranger’s day. Participation is easy:

***Get some $1 bills (even if you can only afford 1!)
***Get an envelope for each dollar and decorate it (You should probably include the phrase Free Love One Dollar or in memory of Mike Morris or both and/or other encouraging words and pictures, so people understand the dollar is there to make them smile)
***Take the dollar in the envelope and place it on a car’s windshield. Some ideas for venues are hospital parking lots, nursing home parking lots, churches, etc. The possibilities are endless, but there are a few places to avoid: mailboxes (that’s a felony), private property, illegal things 😛
***Take pictures! Make it fun, bring lots of people, race each other, smile 🙂
***Post pics and share stories

We are encouraging EVERYONE to invite ANYONE!!! This event is to share love in the memory of Mike. He would love to see everyone celebrate his day with happiness and sharing love with anyone and everyone, just as he always did. This can be a HUGE event! Invite friends in other states and countries to share the fun on September 25 🙂

This is last minute notice for some of you but as you can see it is super easy if you would like to participate.

Let us all brighten someone’s day today and have fun doing it!

Marilyn Monroe FQF

“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go. Things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right. You believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”
-Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe was born an orphan and became one of the most iconic actress, model, singers of all time. That alone shows inspiration that anything is possible. It takes a strong person so shuffle through life and keep the attitude that everything happens for a reason. It is a scientific fact that people physically and mentally change all their lives. Learning to let go of that which was once wonderful is the real challenge. Our whole life should be a continuous learning experience. Things will go wrong but we need to focus on the good that came from those wrongs. Every time when something has fallen apart in my life something better seems to fall into place….weird how that work. There is no time limit on your life just keep going. When you get to that point of assumed perfection and it falls apart you got to once again step back and see what good came of it, trust that everything happens for a reason, take chances, and move on. Your life is an adventure not a chore. Just like thing go wrong with your car things will go wrong with your life. We need maintenance too. No matter what path your life started on find your yellow brick road and proceed. When you are falling, when you least expect it someone is going to be there to catch you or pick you back up.LET THEM!

.

Marilyn Quote over load! These all speak to me in one way or another, and carry their own meaning.

.

“I restore myself when I’m alone.”

Marilyn Monroe

“I’ve never dropped anyone I believed in.”

Marilyn Monroe

“I don’t want to make money, I just want to be wonderful.”

Marilyn Monroe

“A wise girl kisses but doesn’t love, listens but doesn’t believe, and leaves before she is left.”

Marilyn Monroe

It was a long quote explanation this week but thank you for reading. Have a great weekend everyone.

Find Your Happy Place

I always have things lined up that I want to write about and then days or even the day before my Wednesday post I have another idea! We all have lists of cool things we want to buy or do, right? We wait and wait and put it off and maybe never get to it. In my path of many risks and changes I have decided that I need to stop talking about these things and buy or do them. Plus sometimes you just need to treat yourself.

In any case I have already bought and done  a number of things just in the past years time alone. This past Friday I bought myself a kayak. I always wanted my own! I came across some money and decided to take Nike’s advise and “Just Do It”. I bought The car mounting straps, the life vest, the paddle and the kayak all in one shot on Friday. I was going to take it out up by the Chain of Lakes area in the northern part of Illinois on Sunday but I could not stand it I had to put her in the water. Saturday afternoon that is exactly what I did! I went on the Fox River which is very close to where I live.

I got everything set up and scooted off the loading area and into the water. I paddled out into the middle of the water and that is when it hit me………It is so peaceful out here, It is so quiet, I feel really good out by myself in the middle of the river in my new kayak!(I still feel like I should name her) I just started paddling up stream and was thinking about the whole “Happy Place” concept. I think I found it! I Have found my “Happy Place”. I felt very centered out on the river in my kayak. Did not have to do anything did not have to be anywhere did not have to answer to anyone. Needless to say I went to the Chain of Lakes area the next day, scratched her up got her dirty and broke her in! Now, I have been in kayaks before in the open ocean, on rivers, in the rapids but there is a different value to getting in one of your own, it is total peace.

I urge all of you to try everything in life and find your happy places. If you find something you really like doing there really is no reason at all to stop doing it….EVER! This is just one of many places where I am most happy! I am not going to  name all of my happy places but I want to name probably the top 3, but not in any order: Kayaking, Sitting at the top of the mountains, and Chicago Fire soccer games. I know this is more of a personal story than ideas of positivism in my post this week. I think that with all of these Ideas of positivism and practicing what I preach that my life has taken on many positive adventures which I think carry as much value as the ideas of positivism themselves. We all have a choice to be positive or negative, always choose positive and see how your life evolves for the better.

Soon to come, as requested by a wonderful follower of my blog, a “You Want Me” video! you-want-me-explained

Have a great week and weekend everyone. I know what Ill be doing this weekend! 😛

Famous Quote Friday

“What this power is I cannot say; all I know is that it exists and it becomes available only when a man is in that state of mind in which he knows exactly what he wants and is fully determined not to quit until he finds it.”

Alexander Graham Bell

It is a powerful feeling indeed. But it needs to be harnessed and used effectively. You need to be educated and confident that your determination is going in the right direction. I myself am blazing a new trail in my life. I know it is hard, I know it is a lot of work, but I also see my future and I am reaching closer and closer to it every day. It gets hard from time to time there is no doubt about that.  You just need to remind yourself where you are going with your life. The only way to get there is full speed ahead, and never give up. I know exactly what I want and I will do whatever I it takes to get there.
