Julian Treasure: How to speak

There are multiple reasons I want to be a motivational speaker. A lot of my life I have struggled to be parts of conversation, or have something interesting to say, or have people interested in what I am saying enough to listen. Starting up in the blog world was so I can find those people to listen and also be inspired by. Being a motivational speaker is an avenue to hopeful show that I do have important, beneficial and interesting things to say!

I am a big fan of Ted Talks and can across this gem the other day that is certainly helpful in my future and I hope he is speaking in a way that will interest you as well!

Julian Treasure: how to speak so that people want to listen

Here are some notes from the video:

7 deadly sins of speaking

-Gossip

-Judging

-Negativity

-Complaining

-Excuses/blame

-Exaggeration/lying

-Dogmatism/ facts vs. opinion

HAIL: to greet or acclaim enthusiastically

-Honesty, being straight and clear

-Authenticity, be yourself

-Integrity, be your word

-Love, wish them well

Register-speak from your chest, depth and power

Timbre- not high pitched

Prosody- don’t be monotone or talk in questions

Pace- don’t talk to fast or to slow, some silence is ok

Pitch- to emphasize things

Volume- use variably

Ernest Hemingway, Famous Quote Friday

“Before you act, listen. Before you react, think. Before you spend, earn. Before you criticize, wait. Before you pray, forgive. Before you quit, try.”

-Ernest Hemingway

Born and raised in Oak Park, Illinois, Ernest Hemingway was a very influential American author and journalist. This quote seems to be the longer version of a phrase that most of us probably grew up with, “think before you act.” Before you take action on someone or something you need to listen to what is going on. In response before you react you need to think about what you are going to do or say and how it is going to effect your future. I think a lot of us spend before we earn. That is what we call credit cards. I dream of the day where I rid myself of credit card debt. Before you criticize someone wait and try to realize where they are coming from. You don’t know their background story so you really have no reason to criticize people without waiting for all the facts. Before you pray, forgive. I may not be the go to guy for this one but to me it means before for you pray to who you worship for forgiveness you need to forgive those you have directly wronged. Lastly my favorite, before you quit anything in your life you need to try everything!

Have a great week everyone. For those of you in the United States fall is upon us, what a beautiful time! For those around the world I would love to hear what kind of weather graces you now!

***I discovered today there is debate about this quote, if it was Ernest’s or someone else. I won’t get into that here though because no matter who said it, it still has great meaning.***

Pablo Neruda FQF

“Laughter is the language of the soul.”
– Pablo Neruda

Laughter is not only the language of the soul it is also a universal expression for positive amusement. When you laugh everyone knows what that means. Your soul can be regarded as a separate entity to your body, derived of thoughts, feelings and actions. Your soul is a positive part of your body.  No one has to learn to laugh it is something we are born with. The reason Pablo is saying, laughter is the language of the soul, is because we all have a positive soul. We all have a soul that is strengthened by laughter. We all have the positivism in us, it is the life we live and the choices we make that bring that positivism out.

Today, what positive things are you thinking about. What are the positive things you are doing today?

Laughter is the positive cure for almost anything. Make sure you have laughter in your life today and every day.

100th POST

Intellectual: Developed or guided by the knowledge rather than by personal experience.

I don’t want to live with my nose in a big text book drumming up tons of facts. I love reading for sure so don’t get me wrong, but I want to live outside in the real world experiencing and experimenting with success and failure. I don’t need a masters degree to prove anything. I don’t need to be monetarily rich. I certainly don’t want to brain wash you telling you what to do with your life.

I want to share my positive view points with those willing to read or listen. I want to hear everyone’s opinion too! I want to help everyone I can in any way I can. I have lost so much in my life but gained so much more. The success I seek in life now will never just fall on my lap, I will have to work very hard for it. There will be many downs on my path but when I am going up I am like a positive firecracker.

One thing about me that some of you may know. I have a hard time to this day accepting compliments. Or thinking of myself. That being said I want to take this moment to be a little full of myself in asking something from all of you. Now some of you may not know me in person, some of you I have just met, some of you I have known for many years, some of you are very good friends and some of you have known me for 32 years. I want everyone willing, either now or in the near future to leave a comment on this blog post. Not just any comment, a comment about me. Think back as far or close as you want. Think of a time I have helped you with something important, think of a time I have inspired you, hey maybe even a time I changed your life. In as many words as you want tell me about it. For those that don’t know me very well yet, maybe think of a blog or quote I posted that particularly inspired you and tell me about it. If you don’t have anything to say that is alright, stick around because the future holds many more positive things in it and we are going to live up to all of them together. It is really important to me that you comment. If it is something you do not wish to share in public you can always email me instead (upwithmarc@yahoo.com). I am not in any contest or looking for an ego boost I merely want to gather enough positivism to carry me through the next 100 posts.

I am grateful for all of you who share this blogging journey with me and hope you stick around so all of us together can keep making this a bigger positive experience! Have a great week and I look forward to hearing from you.

Marilyn Monroe FQF

“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go. Things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right. You believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”
-Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe was born an orphan and became one of the most iconic actress, model, singers of all time. That alone shows inspiration that anything is possible. It takes a strong person so shuffle through life and keep the attitude that everything happens for a reason. It is a scientific fact that people physically and mentally change all their lives. Learning to let go of that which was once wonderful is the real challenge. Our whole life should be a continuous learning experience. Things will go wrong but we need to focus on the good that came from those wrongs. Every time when something has fallen apart in my life something better seems to fall into place….weird how that work. There is no time limit on your life just keep going. When you get to that point of assumed perfection and it falls apart you got to once again step back and see what good came of it, trust that everything happens for a reason, take chances, and move on. Your life is an adventure not a chore. Just like thing go wrong with your car things will go wrong with your life. We need maintenance too. No matter what path your life started on find your yellow brick road and proceed. When you are falling, when you least expect it someone is going to be there to catch you or pick you back up.LET THEM!

.

Marilyn Quote over load! These all speak to me in one way or another, and carry their own meaning.

.

“I restore myself when I’m alone.”

Marilyn Monroe

“I’ve never dropped anyone I believed in.”

Marilyn Monroe

“I don’t want to make money, I just want to be wonderful.”

Marilyn Monroe

“A wise girl kisses but doesn’t love, listens but doesn’t believe, and leaves before she is left.”

It was a long quote explanation this week but thank you for reading. Have a great weekend everyone.
