Thank You Black Squirrels

I believe everyone has a spirit animal, good luck animal, an animal that speaks wisdom to them or simply one they see all the time. If you have not guessed already my spirit good luck animal is the black squirrel or the Black Melanistic Grey Squirrel. That is a mouth full so I just say black squirrel.

Still living in Illinois I was trying out a marketing job with my departure from Graphic Design. By that I mean pushing products at one of those booths at Sam’s Club. Over all it was a good job and a beneficial experience to my new found strengths in Ultra Positivism. It was tough long days, of fake it till you make it and selling as much as you can so you can get paid. I happen to be very good at it but the payoff did not come to a year out when you advance up to a managing position to make more money. Being in my 30’s with many bills I just could not make it work. However, during my time there, I saw my very first black squirrel. It blew my mind. I told people about it and they doubted me but that day I saw the black squirrel was the best day I had ever had in that job! I was promoted early in just 2 weeks and sent to Dallas Texas to attend their big booster convention for top people. Also to mention I did very well on sales that day.

I saw a black squirrel one more time while up in Illinois and had another great day! Then I moved down here to Florida and almost immediately saw another black squirrel. This has to be important to me some how! I went on a search for a stuffed animal black squirrel, just what any “normal” person would do right? Ha, I just felt like I needed to have it! My friend Chris found one for me as a School Mascot to Haverford College! Needless to say I now own it!

I have my own black squirrel now but the story continues! I started volunteering at Give Kids The World, low and behold I see a black squirrel my first day there. Did not think to ask about it, I was just telling myself that it was going to be another great day which it was. I went back to volunteer and saw another black squirrel, so this time I asked about it. The employees said that there was black, white and brown squirrels here. Now that was really cool to hear. I feel like I was draw to this wonderful place, Give Kids The World by my new spirit animal and good luck charm. Maybe it’s the squirrels, maybe it’s the kids, or maybe just the opportunity to help out but every time I am here it’s always amazing and I do see my black squirrel friends every time.

Fast forward to only a few days ago I saw a black squirrel on my way to work. Right then I was so thankful that I was going to be looking into a great day. A well needed great day. I was confronted with concern as to how I was doing. At least 5 people were wondering what was going on. Mr. Positive was not there. They were right. I was really struggling with a lot of things and this new school year has been very tough to get acclimated to. A great person bringing it up to me was all I needed to flip this attitude of mine around. When I got home that day I read an article from a friends Facebook page and it was about melanistic squirrels and how they were native to right here in Osceola County, specifically where I live! Now how awesome is that? It is like I coincidentally moved my whole life around to be by these cute like rare black squirrels.

You can certainly take away a good message from my story of black squirrels. I strongly believe everything happens for a reason. In the last few years the reasons for events in my life have been very clear. You also can not benefit in something you don’t believe in. I believe in these black squirrels; I believe in messages from the ocean. I believe no matter how hard life is for me right now, I am meant to be living and working were I am. You take life one day at a time and if there should ever be a bad one you can always count on tomorrow being a fresh start to a better day!

3 years ago today!

3 years of blogging and so many goals achieved. So many new goals and new experiences. The best part is there are more goals to come, more adventures to live, and more great people to meet! So excited to have kept up with this blog for so long. I was never a big writer before but practice makes perfect! I do not strive to be the greatest writer ever and my grammar and quick writing can show for that, but I do strive to make a positive difference in our world! My writing and Ideas can show for that!

This is where it all started: https://upwithmarc.com/2012/08/29/hello-world/

Blow Your Own Mind

I visited my hometown area for Christmas and New Years in the Northwest parts of the Chicago area. Being a resident of Florida now and it being winter time I was anxious to see the snow again. Sense I booked my flight I hoped for snow for some time, and waited in controlled excitement for that day, just like I waited for my day at sea on my cruise vacation a few years ago. That day never came and as I flew back home that snow began to fall.

I felt weird on the way home and I told my mom and dad it was weird that I was flying home to what most people call a vacation spot, and where I came to visit was where I used to live. I landed in Florida only to hear my Father say the snow plow just went by and my Mother sends me pictures of the 4 inches of snow she got and it is still coming down. I missed what I really wanted to see by hours not even a whole day!

Should I be disappointed? NO! When you do something enough it becomes habit. On a journey to love everything in life you must take initiative to find the positives in the not so glamorous situations. Finding positives has become second nature to me. Yes I am from Illinois, snow is glamorous to me! Right off the bat anyone can conclude that I left just in time, without having any weather delays and I got home safely. I was sitting in my room in shorts and a t-shirt; thinking about the snow I was missing, I was sweating and it felt so hot here! I was antsy to look into my new Spanish-speaking program and my new Chakra set but my mind lays distracted by the snow I missed.

I took the time to figuring out what was going on in my head and I realized I wrote my answer to this issue of missing the snow, last Friday!

Variety Friday (purpose) “Finding your way means stepping away from something good for something better.”

I actually got a little teary eyed writing this because my life now has been full of inspiration and I have so much to be grateful for as a result. On more than one occasion I have succeeded in blowing my own mind. This was one of those times. These self discoveries are what taking your own path in life is all about. I shed no disappointment for not seeing more than a light dusting of snow when I left, but I do take pride in standing here in Florida, a resident for only about 6 months, and looking back up north with praise for what this world has given to me up to this point. There is more coming, there is always more coming if that is what you believe in. The snow is good but for my life the ocean is better.

Ask The Ocean

Sometimes you need to get answers that you cannot figure out. Sometimes you just want to know what to do next in your life. Sometimes you just have a simple question. When you have questions obviously you want them answered. Perhaps it is an answer that mom and dad can’t give you even though they know everything! Maybe it is beyond the realm of your teacher. Unless you’re fixed on the Magic 8 Ball for answering your life questions, there are still so many ways to get your answer. You can ask God, you can look to your guardian angel, you can entrust spiritual leaders or healers, you can scream life’s burning questions at the top of the mountain and listen to the answers in your echos. There are many ways to get life’s questions answered and I for one have begun asking the ocean!
(warning long story :P) You can get your answer anywhere but until you believe that things happen for a reason you will never hear the right answers. Life is a personal journey and this is part of mine.

—————————————————

I went on vacation with my sister. We went on a cruise through the Southern Caribbean. All I could think about before the trip was our day at sea. I had no Idea why the open ocean was calling to me. But I answered! The day had finally come and this day turned out to be one of the best days in my entire life. It was my first vacation with just my sister, it was my first time on a cruise ship, and my first time at sea. I sat out on our balcony for a good hour staring out to the endless nothings of the deep ocean. This was about 2 years ago and to this day I have shared this story with no one in such detail, not even my sister who was right there. The Ocean talked to me that day. It said “Marc this is where you belong, this is your life, this is your happiness, and this is where you start living your life.” Moments after my connection with the Ocean an announcement came over the main intercom of the ship. It was for bingo at 9am! I told my sister that we should check it out. Ya know live it up by playing bingo, ha! We played and several numbers were called and when you are one number away from bingo you stand. People all over were standing up. People were calling false bingos left and right. Finally it was my turn to stand! That very next number was mine, but 4 others also stood up. Now if we all won the winnings would be split. One after another, again more false bingos. I begin to doubt my card. I was the last card to be read in that theater, and I was the only one to win $750 to spend on the ship for our day at sea. WHOA! I never win anything like that. I looked back on this event only a few weeks ago and realized, the Ocean gave that win to me, and live it up we did. My sister and I got full massage packages; we bought stuff in the shops for ourselves and some people at home. We shared our winnings on drinks for our dinner guests and spent the rest on ourselves with more beverages. I had never won that much money, I had never had such a nice watch, I had never had a massage. Who would have thought that this day at sea on our cruise would be the front lines to things I have never done.

That same evening when our winnings were almost out, we were chatting with the bartender. Here it comes I asked her the question of my future and I believe she was speaking on behalf of the Ocean that night. I ask “how does one go about getting a job on a cruise ship?”

A year and a half later and lots of hard work and changes to my life I was about to step on to the moving vassal of my future that floats upon the Ocean, who has given me so much already…..Waiting, waiting, waiting to be assigned to a ship and finally it comes, for 6 months I will be on Royal Caribbean’s Jewel of the Seas touring, wouldn’t you know, the Southern Caribbean. I was so ready for this job. I was ready to have the Ocean by my side. Every time I could I stepped out on the open decks of my new job and had many talks with the Ocean. I poured my soul into these deep waters, as the beauty of the crashing waves mesmerized my senses. So began my love affair with the water not only did I hang out ocean side on the ship I also took every opportunity to float within the waters on every beach we visited.

Then something terrible happened, I was allergic to something and it was bad. On the ship and on the shore they did all they could to remedy my situation to no avail. (in no way does my experience reflect what the guest experience on this amazingly beautiful ship.) I could hardly sleep, and my already long work days were getting harder and harder. It looked like I was going to have to be sent home. About a week before I did get sent home my watch that I bought on my vacation stopped working. Well my watched stopped before the time it should have but I now know it was a sign that it was time to go home.

I pleaded with the Ocean as to why this was happening. I loved it out here in the open waters. I got home and it just did not feel the same. What I called home was more uncomfortable than ever. I knew shortly after that I must get near the Ocean once again. That is what brings me down here to Florida.

This past week over Thanksgiving break I stood by the Ocean alone for just a few minutes at a time almost every day up in New Symerna Beach, FL. All I asked is “what is next”? This brings us up to just about right now! I Listened, I listened to the waves crash up on the beach, I felt the waves crash into me, I walked the beach up and down to let the Ocean know I was there. I woke up one of the mornings later in the week, and to my surprise my answers have come.

The Ocean has spoken to me clearly once again, “Marc you belong here, the ocean needs you close by. Your job search landed a new career choice to make a different and it is where you belong right now. Your next step is to settle down and continue to build your new life here. Your next step is to find someone special to share the rest of your life with”.
—————————————–
Everything happens for a reason, it is what you choose to hear and see that shapes your future. Live your life, Love your life, and share it with others. Take your next question to the ocean and let yourself accept whatever answer it gives you.

Okay so that was long! But I hope that some of you have been inspired! I Sometimes part of becoming positive is reading positive stories or writing your own even. love all of you, and I am grateful for all your support.

Variety Friday (Fortune)

What if the fate of the world relied on your fortune cookie?

fortune-cookie-believe

Yes, yes, I know fortune cookies are just fun for most, but how many times have you gotten one that was right? I just got one on Wednesday that really nails it for me right now.

20141106_210728

“Your spirit of adventure leads you down an exciting new path.”

This fortune could not be more right. My life is full of adventure, including adventures within! You better believe it is an exciting path. Everything in our life has value, every person we meet has value you. The first step in discovering the value of things or people you encounter in your life is to BELIEVE! If you don’t have belief that it will work or benefit you there is no chance it ever will. If you just believe, you are that much closer to an opportunity for something very exciting in your life. I can guarantee that people’s lives have been forever changed simply at the crack of a fortune cookie. Those messages are all pre-written but perhaps we are all meant to find that fortune that changes our life?

I’M NOT DONE YET!

Sometimes you have to give up everything to find the one thing you want the most. Only the strong can make that risk. Only the strong can let go of every comfort they know. Only the strong can venture away from a career they have mastered for something new. Only the strong can walk away from people that love you and the people you love. Only the strong can fail 100’s of times and still reach for what is right in their heart. We can do anything. You can do anything, you are strong. You just have to take that risk and get started. There are better things out there for your life, you have to be strong enough to go after them.

Slowly but surely I will find where I belong and search the planet to find those that share my same views as we unite. I will climb my mountain of failures and raise a flag that says “I’M NOT DONE YET” If I can breathe there is still hope for something better. If I have a heart beat I can still love, and my soul will guide me. All I have to do is listen, hope for the best in life and be grateful for anything hope brings me because this is my life! I decide my life.

The easiest most attractive path is not always the right one and before long you are too comfortable for change. Get uncomfortable and change your path. Change your life, take risks, and be strong. You are not done yet!

Dinner with a 1st grader

Usually I use Wednesdays to talk about ways of positivism but I am going to change it up for a worthwhile story about going to the Chinese buffet.

2 Fridays ago I went by myself to the Chinese buffet. A well known fact about me is that I LOVE buffets and I cannot resist going to them. The daughter of the owner was talking and giggling to her mother while I was paying my check.

The mom then asks me “do you work at (censored) Elementary School?”

I said “yes I do.”

“My daughter says she sees you at P.E.” (Physical Education)

“Yes that would make sense; she must be in first grade.”

“Yes”

I turned to the daughter and told her to make sure she said hi to me the next time she saw me in P.E.

I did not see her the whole week but I did end up going to the same buffet this past Friday. I saw her there but I did not say anything. I sat down went about my business stuffing my face with Americanized Chinese food. That little girl came up to me and asked if I remember her. Of course I did. She was also sad that she did not see me at all last week. I asked for her name and made sure she knew mine.

The little girl said, “I am going to run up to you in P.E. and see if you remember my name!”

This adorable conversation went on for about a half hour or so while I was eating. At first she was standing by me then eventually she sat down in the booth across from me.

In her innocence I doubt she knew that she made my night. So sweet of her to sit and chat with me, so thankful for her mom to trust me, and so grateful for not only a full stomach but a full heart as well that Friday night.

Children are the future of our existence. If we can mold their innocence into a more positive life and way of thinking, we can certainly look for a better tomorrow. We need to be positive ourselves in order to share that positive image for our children. We need to live a positive lifestyle in order for our children to lead a positive life. They don’t learn positivism from books, movies, or lesson plans; they learn from the connection from your heart and soul to theirs. Positivism is as innocent as a child, why not nurture our inner child in order for our children to have the opportunity to live a more positive life!

I literally could start a whole new blog just on my interactions with the students at my school. My experience with working on the cruise ship was amazing but my journey working with elementary school students is a far more amazing experience at heart. Love ourselves, love to children, and love the future!
